A big detached garage with an upstairs loft in the trees near Spirit Lake: tan lap and board-and-batten over the full shell, a rough-sawn timber stair and landing, and new prairie-grid windows that we set, flashed, and trimmed to match the main house.

How We Built It
The brief was simple: make the new garage read like it was built with the house. We matched the main residence's reveal, color, and trim stock, wrapped the rough-sawn timber stair stringers and posts in a compatible finish, and installed the new prairie-grid windows ourselves, flashed into the weather barrier and trimmed with the same details, so the two buildings photograph as one property. Our progress photos still show the SmartSide factory wrap on the wall, which is about as clear as material documentation gets.
